Gifts from Donor-Advised Funds

Donating appreciated securities, including mutual funds, is an easy and tax-smart way to make a gift to the University of Hawaiʻi Cancer Center.

Gifts of Retirement Assets
Donating part or all of your unused retirement assets, such as a gift from your IRA, 401(k), 403(b), pension or other tax-deferred plan, is an excellent way to make a gift to the University of Hawaiʻi Cancer Center.
How to make a gift of retirement assets
To leave your retirement assets to the University of Hawai'i Cancer Center, you will need to complete a beneficiary designation form provided by your retirement plan custodian. Designate the University of Hawai'i Foundation as beneficiary to support the UH Cancer Center, we will benefit from the full value of your gift because your IRA assets will not be taxed at your death. Your estate will benefit from an estate tax charitable deduction for the gift.

• Avoid potential estate tax on retirement assets
• Your heirs would avoid income tax on any retirement assets funded on a pre-tax basis
• Receive potential estate tax savings from an estate tax deduction

If you are 70 ½ or older, an IRA charitable rollover is a great way you can help continue our mission.

Honor A Loved One
Make a donation in honor or in memory of a loved one to support the lifesaving work that we do. On step 2 of the donation page, be sure to check the box that indicates your gift is in honor/memory of… provide the person’s name you’re honoring/making the gift in memory of and the contact information of anyone who you would like notified of the gift. We will notify the appropriate family members/colleagues about your gift, but will keep the gift amount private.

To make a gift of life insurance, please contact your life insurance provider, request a beneficiary designation form from the insurer and include the University of Hawaiʻi Foundation as the beneficiary of your policy. Please note it is to support the UH Cancer Center.
