Quest for a Cure: Progress in Cancer Research
The Quest for a Cure is a public education event hosted annually by the University of Hawaiʻi Cancer Center. The Quest is an event for anyone whose life has been touched by cancer and wants to learn more about the disease. Topics include different cancer types and related cancer issues. Speakers include researchers from the UH Cancer Center as well as clinician partners from our oncology community.
This is the 13th year of the Quest for a Cure: Progress in Cancer Research. This year the Quest is being held in person as well as via Zoom webinars.

Liver Cancer
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2024
Our speakers reviewed the impact of liver cancer in Hawaiʻi, symptoms and treatment options such as surgery, locoregional therapies, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiation. They also discussed liver cancer research currently being done at the University of Hawaiʻi Cancer Center and a cancer survivor shared his story.
Light refreshments were served for those who attended in person.

- Identifying at least two different options to treat liver cancer
- Understanding the impact of liver cancer in Hawaiʻi
- Hearing a liver cancer survivor's journey
Diet, Nutrition and Cancer
SATURDAY, AUGUST 24, 2024
Our speakers reviewed the latest research on nutrition and diet related to cancer, including findings from the Multiethnic Cohort Study, ongoing local and national research, and our current Healthy Diet and Lifestyle II study. They also discussed how local foods can help prevent, manage, and reduce the recurrence of cancer as well as practical ways to incorporate these foods into our daily eating habits. The perspectives of a study participant and cancer survivor were also shared.
